Frequently Asked Questions
Whenever you are baking with apples it is very important to use baking apples. Some apples will never get soft when baked, and some apples will get too soft when baked. You want to use apples that are meant for baking and will get just right when used in a recipe.
The best apples to use in this recipe are Honey Crisp, Fuji, Cortland, or Braeburn apples. If you want a more sour apple, you can use Granny Smith apples. This is great for that little bite through the sweetness of the dessert. If you want a sweet apple that bakes well, you can use Jonagold, Gala, or Jonathon apples. Any of these apples will taste fantastic with the other flavors of the baked apples and will give you just the right texture.
When you are making stuffed apples, you want to use rolled oats, rather than quick oats. The quick oats will cook faster and that means that they will become soggy in this recipe. Make sure to get the old-fashioned oats or rolled oats for this recipe.
Baked apples are good for you in the sense that they are apples filled with fiber. However, as you add the other things to the apples, like butter and sugar, you are taking away from the healthy factor and just adding flavor and deliciousness.
For this recipe, adding honey and maple syrup as natural sweeteners alongside the healthy coconut oil as a binder means that these may not be a daily indulgence, but are definitely a healthier option than other desserts or sweet breakfasts.
Yes! Follow this recipe up to the point you put it in the oven. Instead, heat your air fryer to 325°F and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. If the apples aren't softened, continue cooking in 5-minute increments.

What Should I Serve Over Baked Apples?
You can serve these baked apples just as they are, but you can add something special if you want to take it up to a whole new level. Some ideas below are great to go on this treat.
You can make a simple homemade whipped cream, or powdered sugar and cream cheese glaze to pour over the top. Of course, vanilla ice cream, butter pecan ice cream, black walnut ice cream, or even a caramel or cinnamon flavored ice cream can all be a great addition.
If you want just a hint of something extra, top with a caramel or chocolate sauce. I have even had this with a drizzle of white chocolate sauce for a little bit of unique flavor that pairs well with the apple and cinnamon.
