How to Make Homemade Blackberry Wine Sorbet
In a medium saucepan, combine the blackberry wine, sugar, lime juice, and water. Simmer this over medium heat, stirring regularly, until the sugar is dissolved.
Now, add ice to a large bowl, then place a medium bowl on top of that ice. Pour the blackberry wine mixture into the empty bowl and stir to cool it down. Let it sits for 1 hour, stirring every 10 to 15 minutes.
Once cooled, pour this into an airtight container with a lid. A Tupperware or similar container works great for this.
Place in the freezer for at least 12 hours before scooping to serve. Serve with fresh berries.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you can easily make this without alcohol. Simply replace the blackberry wine with an equal amount of blackberry juice. You can also substitute any other type of berries or fruit instead of blackberries. Almost any combination will work so you can experiment until you find your favorite combination.
The best rule of thumb is to eat homemade sorbet within two weeks. However, if stored correctly in the freezer it can last for up to three months. To keep the homemade sorbet freshest for the longest, make sure to wrap your sorbet tightly with plastic wrap or store it in an airtight container.
No, you don't need an ice cream maker to make sorbet. You don't need anything but a container for freezing this mixture!
If you find it is a bit too solid once you take it from the freezer, you can use a blender or food processor to pulse and create more of a slush texture for the sorbet.
If you find that you don't like the blackberry flavor, or it isn't available, you can still make a wine sorbet. This is tasty with riesling or a dry rosé as well. You could even make a sangria sorbet if you wish.
