Kids and adults alike love seeing these chocolate spheres filled with flavor and fun to melt in hot coffee or milk. This tutorial makes it easy to create your own to make that coffee shop drink at home with little effort.
These coffee bombs pair great with a slice of old fashioned pound cake, a bit of this coconut cake recipe, or even my favorite chocolate cheesecake recipe. They are ideal for turning dessert into an event. I just love how they round out the flavor of after-dinner coffee, and there is something about them that makes me feel like a kid again.
What Can I Add Inside These Coffee Bombs for More Flavor?
The basic cafe mocha is just a matter of chocolate being added to the coffee. How much or what type of chocolate you add may vary slightly from coffee shop to coffee shop. I went with something super easy for this with the milk chocolate and vanilla coffee creamer, but you can definitely update with different options if you prefer. Below are some of my favorite additions that can kick up the coffee bomb to new levels.
- Use different chocolate coffee creamer flavors. You can even add liquid creamer like the candy bar flavors Snickers and Twix.
- Add miniature chocolate chips inside the coffee bomb.
- Include chocolate sprinkles are candy pieces.
- Add in crushed OREO cookies or chocolate cookie crumbs.
- Mix in flavored coffee syrups in a variety of flavors as accents.
Do I Have to Make These Round?
No! The classic bomb is made in a round silicone mold, but that's not necessary. You can make these in any shape mold you have on hand. I love how easy the round shape is to make, but you can definitely do this with other molds. Below are some fun shapes I have seen as coffee bombs and loved.
What Chocolate is Best for Melting in Coffee?
While I normally recommend using candy melts for dipping items, in this case, you want a basic chocolate chip or good melting chocolate. Something that will melt fast and easy under hot coffee or milk. I reach for whatever chocolate chips I happen to have on hand but prefer using a quality brand like Ghiradelli when possible. They have a much better-melting result and are less likely to burn or discolor when they resolidify.
