What Do Garlic Cheese Rolls Go With?
The best part of this recipe is that it is so versatile to go with almost any meal. I love them all by themselves, but they are a great choice to serve with my favorite meals.
My kids like them with a bit of my homemade pasta sauce for dipping as a snack. You can also serve them alongside a simple spaghetti bolognese, cheesy lasagna, or even just with a simple parmesan-crusted chicken thighs recipe.
Other family favorites are pairing these with our garlic sage butter pork chops or these cheese-stuffed meatballs. Use your imagination to add this to your menu!

How to Make Bread Bombs
Start by preparing your ingredients and workstation. I like to begin with cleaning everything so I have a sanitary surface, then working to measure everything out ahead of time so it is simple to just grab items and toss them into the bowl as needed.
Whisk together the water, yeast, egg, sugar, and salt with vegetable oil in a large bowl.
Then stir in 1 cup of the flour and let it sit for 15 minutes.
After that has sat for 15 minutes, you will go ahead and mix in the rest of the flour.
Now, using a clean hand, knead the dough until it comes together to form a smooth ball. You can add additional flour here if it is still sticky. This can happen depending on the humidity in your home.
Place the dough ball in a lightly oiled or greased bowl and cover loosely then set in a warm place to rest for 30-minutes.
Once the dough has rested, preheat the oven to 350°F/180°C, and go ahead and line your baking sheet or baking dish with parchment paper. I used a 10" round baking dish.
Next, melt the butter and whisk in the garlic powder garlic paste (or minced garlic), oregano and parsley.
On a clean surface, turn out the dough and divide it into 6 equal portions.
Flatten each of these dough balls out slightly so you can place a cube or sprinkle of cheese into the middle.
Once the cheese is on the dough, pull the sides back over it to form a ball again and pinch any edges together to seal.
Place these dough balls, seam side down, onto the prepared baking sheet or dish.
Now, pour around ¾ of the herb butter mixture over the dough balls brushing to cover them all well.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until they are cooked through, golden brown, and the cheese is melted in the center.
Remove from the oven, and brush the remaining garlic butter over the top of the rolls while they are still hot.
I recommend serving fresh from the oven for the melted cheese texture.
Frequently Asked Questions
I love making fresh bread dough when I have the time, but I realize that sometimes, you just don't have that kind of available time. If that is the case, you can certainly use a bread dough mix. You can get them in the freezer section or in the refrigerated section. You can even use pizza dough from the refrigerated section of your market.
If using a ready-made bread, follow the package directions for thawing and rising before you cut into portions and fill to bake.
You can stuff these bread bombs with anything that you like but make sure it is a cheese that melts well. I typically reach for mozzarella as shown, but you can use cheddar, pepper jack, gouda, fontina, or any number of other cheeses on hand.
Tip: Check the specialty cheese section at your market for garlic cheese. This adds another layer of flavor to this snack.
You can absolutely season the dough before you form it into balls. Add garlic powder or herbs to the dry ingredients and mix as directed. I would recommend 1 teaspoon garlic powder with 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning or oregano for a start.
If using seasonings in the dough, you'll want to make sure you are okay with that added flavor of garlic. If it seems like it might be too much, you can cut back on the amount of garlic powder or garlic paste used in the butter mixture that goes on top of the bread bombs.
