I admit that pizza is a weakness in my diet. If I could, I would eat it every day. So, any homemade recipe involving pizza is a hit. Especially a hit with my teen who could live on pizza. This pizza puff snack recipe is a great homemade choice I can make and feel no guilt about serving. So easy to customize, semi-homemade for convenience, and seriously fast when you are in a hurry on a busy weekday.
Pizza Puff Snack Recipe
This recipe probably wouldn't win awards for the best pizza you've ever had. The pizza itself comes in so many different versions, and the real traditional kids are definitely ones you take more time preparing. That doesn't mean these are delicious though! You just have to know that they are true, a super easy semi-homemade snack that is yummy! I find them best when filled with quality cheese and toppings while my son would eat them with the cheapest pepperoni and sauce and still declare them perfect.
Whether you are whipping these up at the last minute for a fast and yummy dinner or preparing for a snack, they are sure to be loved. Customize them with your favorite flavors and watch everyone devour them in minutes! For a more traditional pizza night, you might really love this homemade Sicilian style pizza recipe. It's absolutely delicious and sure to be a favorite in your home.
What Pizza Toppings Go In This?
What pizza toppings do you like? No matter what they are, they will fit into these little pizza pockets. For this version, I went super simple and classic with pepperoni, basil, sauce, and cheese. Those are always a hit in our house, but you can add pretty much any of your favorites in this recipe. Below are some of my favorite toppings that work well inside these pockets.
- Pepperoni, salami, ham, hamburger, sausage, anchovies, or chicken
- Mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, olives, and pepper rings
- Mozzarella, Parmesan, cheddar, goat cheese, feta crumbles, or fontina
- Basil, oregano, thyme, parsley, and garlic
If you like a little different non-traditional pizza, then you would probably love the stovetop tandoori tikka naan pizza. Even more, unique is this fun pierogi pizza idea. A delicious flavor that is sure to please your family. For a fast but easy full-sized pizza, you might try this homemade 2-ingredient pizza dough recipe.
Can I Freeze These?
Yes! That is one of my favorite things about this recipe. They are super easy to assemble then flash freeze. I like to make these in big batches so I have a bunch in the freezer at all times. That way I know I always have an easy meal everyone loves, and my son can grab something out of the freezer and heat up at any time for a snack or lunch if I am busy.
To freeze these, I like to assemble just to the point of baking and lay them on a lined baking sheet. I put the sheet into the freezer for 1-2 hours, then remove them and place with parchment paper between each one in a freezer storage container or in a freezer bag. Just make sure to date and label the containers so you know what is inside.
These are good for 3-4 months in the freezer. That said, they rarely last more than 2 months in our house because they are eaten so frequently! We also like to make batches of these pull apart pepperoni garlic knots as part of freezer prep. They are super yummy and kid-friendly.
How do I Reheat These From Frozen?
Since I don't cook them before freezing, I simply place frozen onto the baking sheet and cook from frozen. There is no need to thaw them. Just place onto the prepped baking sheet and the cook at the same temperature. I typically add 3-5 additional minutes to the cook time to make sure everything is cooked through. If your oven heats differently, you can adjust that to make sure they are heated through and browned to your preferences.
