Handy Kitchen Tools
How to Make Oreo Sticky Bun Dough
In a large bowl or the bowl of your stand mixer with the dough hook, add the flour, yeast, and salt.
Using a microwave-safe bowl, heat the milk and butter together in the microwave for 45 to 60 seconds until just heated through but not piping hot.
To the bowl of milk and butter, add the granulated sugar and stir.
Return to the microwave for an additional 30 seconds. You want it warm to the touch but not piping hot.
Gradually, add this mixture to the flour and mix together on medium speed until the dough begins to come together.
Add the egg and mix at low speed until it forms a ball of sticky dough.
Once the dough begins to pull into a ball, turn the mixer to medium speed and knead the dough for 3 minutes until it becomes elastic. If not using a stand mixer, you can turn it out onto a clean surface and manually knead the dough for 4 to 5 minutes until it is elastic.
While kneading the dough, you may need to add additional flour to prevent it from sticking. Add by 1 tablespoon at a time, just until it is no longer sticky.
Once the ball forms move up to a medium speed and knead for 3 mins until the dough becomes more elastic.
When the dough has become elastic, add in the Oreo cookie crumbs and mix or knead until they are distributed well.
Lightly flour your hands, and quickly knead/form the dough into a ball. Place back into the bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a damp towel and let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8"x8" baking dish lightly with butter.
How to Make Cream Cheese Sticky Bun Filling
In a large bowl, combine softened cream cheese and butter with the sugar and Oreo cookie crumbs. Stir together until smooth.
How to Assemble the Oreo Stick Buns to Bake

Spread the cream cheese filling over the top of the dough.
Beginning near yourself, roll the dough into a log, away from yourself, pulling the dough tight to keep the filling inside and create the layers in the circle of dough.
Cut the dough into 9 pieces then place those into the prepared baking dish.
Rest, uncovered, for 30 minutes in a warm area of the kitchen.
Bake for 25 to 30 or until cooked through and golden brown on top.
Let the sticky buns cool for 10 minutes before topping with the glaze.
How to Make Powdered Sugar Glaze
In a large bowl, beat the butter and powdered sugar together until mostly smooth.
Add in the heavy cream and mix until smooth.
Spread over the cooled cinnamon rolls.
Then top with additional crushed cookies before serving.
Frequently Asked Questions
While there are many differences between traditional sticky buns and cinnamon rolls, the two most common include the extra rising time for a cinnamon roll as well as nuts being added. In this case, cookie crumbs are added rather than nuts.
Stored in an airtight container at room temperature, these are good for 2 to 4 days. If stored in the refrigerator, they are good for up to 1 week.
Yes! If making ahead of time, you will need to add double the amount of yeast to make sure it rises well after thawing. You should also freeze the dough raw, only after it has been cut and then allowed to proof completely. When ready to prepare, allow it to thaw for 2 hours before baking as directed above.
