Handy Kitchen Tools
How to Make a Sausage Tortilla Wrap
Heat a skillet over medium heat and then add in the butter and sausage links. Cook the sausage for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until it is cooked through and nicely browned. Remove the sausages and set them aside.
Whisk the eggs with seasonings. Then place two slices of cheese into the skillet.
Then pour the eggs over the top of them and cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the eggs are mostly cooked.
Once the eggs are set and mostly cooked, place a tortilla over the top and flip it over so the tortilla is on the bottom and the eggs are on top.
Place the cooked sausage on top of the eggs.
Then top with lettuce and tomato slices. You can add sauces here if you want.
Next, Fold the tortilla over the sausage. Fold until you have a burrito shape and then remove from the pan.
Slice to serve and drizzle with your preferred sauces like ketchup, mayonnaise, or even salsa or hot sauce.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can use whatever kind of sausage you like. You can even use different types of sausage each time you make this tortilla wrap. For this version, a chorizo sausage was used.
Regular breakfast sauces links or patties, ground sausage, chicken sausage, or even Italian sausage could all be used in this wrap. You could even replace the sausage with cooked bacon or ham if you prefer.
This is going to depend on what ingredients you use in your egg and sausage wrap. If you are trying to watch your macros, you will want to use a low-carb tortilla. There are several options available on the market so you will have a lot to choose from.
Typically, eggs, sausage, and cheese are low-carb choices. However, some sausages do have added sugar for flavor, so when preparing this make sure you are verifying the carbohydrate count in each ingredient if that is important for your dietary needs.
My egg and sausage tortilla wrap have tomato and lettuce on it giving this a sandwich feel. You can also add raw onion. If you want to add more veggies to this breakfast wrap you can add them raw, depending on the vegetable, or you will want to saute them before adding, like an omelet.
Other options great for this include bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms that have been sauteed and added to the wrap with the eggs.
I like to use slices of cheddar or American cheese on my egg and sausage wrap, but you can use whatever kind of cheese you like. Slices are easier to use, but you can use shredded too. Also, I prefer to use cheese that melts well, but this isn't necessary.
Mornings are so hectic. I love when I have something that makes my mornings easier. These sausage tortilla wraps can be made ahead of time.
You can make them and keep them in the refrigerator so you can grab them in the morning and easily reheat it. If you do this, I recommend leaving the tomato and lettuce off of the wrap until after it has been heated through to serve.
Another option is to make a large batch of the sausage wraps and freeze them. Once the wraps are made, make sure everything is cooled and then wrap the wraps well with plastic wrap and then place them in the freezer.
The egg and sausage tortilla wraps will last for up to 3 months in the freezer. When you are ready to serve the tortilla wraps, you can thaw them in the freezer overnight or reheat the wraps from frozen. If you are reheating from frozen, you will need to add a little more time.
