Handy Kitchen Tools
How to Make a Braided Dessert Bread
Set the puff pastry out of the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes to thaw so it is easy to work with.
While it is thawing, line a baking sheet or dish with parchment paper, then preheat the oven to 340°F/170°C and clean your work surface.
Lightly flour a clean surface and roll the pastry out into a rectangle.
Place the chocolate in the center of the dough.
Then top it with the pudding.
Next, add the graham crackers, and then, add marshmallows on top.
Use a knife to cut 1" wide pieces down the sides of the dough, starting at the top of the chocolate bar and ending at the base of it. Cut at an angle.
Fold the top and bottom of the dough over the chocolate bar.
Then go back and forth folding the strips so it looks like a braid until all done.
Fold the bottom of the dough over this.
Put the braided dough onto the prepared baking sheet, then whisk the egg then brush over the top of the dough.
Crush a bit of the graham crackers and sprinkle over the top.
Then add a few mini chocolate chips.
Bake the braid for 20 to 25 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and the chocolate is melted.
Let it cool, then top with glaze if desired.
How to Make Easy Glaze
In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons each of water and powdered sugar. Spread or drizzle over the top of the pastry before serving.

- 6 marshmallows
- 1 ¼ graham cracker sheets
- ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
- 1 egg whisked
- 2 tablespoon graham cracker crumbs
Optional glaze
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
How to Make a Braided Dessert Bread
- Let the puff pastry thaw for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 340°F/170°C, then line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Then roll it out into a large rectangle on a clean surface.
- To the center of the pastry, lay the chocolate bar.
- Then spread the chocolate pudding over the bar.
- Top with graham crackers and marshmallows.
- On each side of the dough, at the top where the chocolate bar is, begin cutting 1" wide slices into the dough at a downward angle.
- Continue this until there are slices from the top of the chocolate bar to its base. You want to have excess dough on the top and bottom to fold over.
- Now, fold the section of dough at the top and bottom over the chocolate bar and crackers.
- Then, wrap the dough slices on the side over the top, weaving back and forth.
- This should look "braided" and have just bits of the chocolate poking out of each side.
- Place the braid onto the prepared baking sheet. Then, whisk the egg and brush it over the top of the braid.
- Add a few graham cracker crumbs and mini chocolate chips over the top.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and the chocolate is melted.
How to Make Easy Glaze
- In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons each of water and powdered sugar. Spread or drizzle over the top of the pastry before serving.
