Strawberry Stuffed French Toast Rolls
French toast has long been a standard for delicious sweet breakfasts. You, like I, probably grew up with the classic battered and fried bread slices that were then slathered in butter, syrup, or powdered sugar. This fun idea takes the same basic process and makes them even more fun and delicious. Stuffed French toast is always good, and loaded with strawberries it is sure to be loved.
If you like this recipe, you'll also enjoy my classic French toast recipe and this fun cinnamon rolls French toast roll ups idea. Both are great choices that bring the same classic flavor to the menu that you know and love. Of course, the easy option is this cinnamon French toast bread pudding with glaze. It's dessert and breakfast all in one!
What Bread is Best for Stuffed French Toast?
For this type of French toast, you can use truly any kind of bread you have on hand. Plain white bread is really the easiest to use with the best results. There are no competing flavors. If you want to kick up the flavor a bit, you can use other options. Below are some of my favorites for this recipe.
- Cinnamon raisin bread
- Texas toast
- Hawaiian bread
- Sourdough
- Potato bread
Can I Use Different Fruits?
You can definitely add any fruits to this that you prefer. Strawberries work well as they are already soft and pair well with the syrup or powdered sugar common with French toast. You can also use any berry you prefer. Blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries are all great choices.
If you want to use something like bananas, you can easily slice and add to the mixture with good results. For something different, apples and pears are nice but will need to be cooked down before rolling. So, a pie filling might work best, or some pear butter or apple butter instead.
What do You Serve With Stuffed French Toast?
In our house, sweet breakfasts need something savory on the side. So, we always start with ham, sausage, or bacon. This oven-baked bacon recipe is my favorite because it is so easy to make and turns out perfect every time.
You can also serve with eggs of any kind, or something like this burst tomato frittata with basil oil and fontina pairs wonderfully. We also serve with additional fruit, some yogurt, and of course, the orange juice and coffee we all love.
What Do You Serve on French Toast Rolls?
Just like any other French toast dish, you will probably want to serve this with syrup. A few ideas that we love are listed below and work wonderfully alongside these rolls. Of course, you can also serve them completely by themselves with no topping. They are just that delicious.
- Powdered sugar or cocoa-dusted over the top.
- Maple syrup, pancake syrup, chocolate syrup, caramel syrup, or honey.
- Additional chopped berries.
- A drizzle of melted chocolate (milk, white, or semi-sweet).
- Warm Nutella or peanut butter drizzled over the top.
Can I Make These to Freeze for Later?
Yes! While I find they are best right away, they do freeze well to reheat. Prepare as directed, then allow them to cool completely. Once cool, place into a freezer storage container or freezer storage bag that has been labeled and dated.
To reheat, you can microwave for 1 minute or place on a baking sheet to bake at 350°F for 10 minutes to heat through and crisp. Just watch closely so they don't burn but just heat through and crisp. You can also reheat in a skillet or on a griddle but it tends to burn faster that way than in the oven or microwave.

These look wonderful and I can't wait to try them. Will get the ingredients today. I know my hubby will love these. I'm confused by the serving size. If you use 8 slices of bread, wouldn't it be 4 servings, 2 rolls each? The nutritional info just doesn't look right to me. Thanks for the delicious looking recipe.
Katie Hale
Hi! Yes, it would be 4 servings of 2 rolls each as shown. The nutritional information is correct given the amount of cheese and oil it is cooked in. With less oil/butter it may be less calories
